MK Dons set partner with Thames Valley Police to deter young people from knife crime

MK Dons SET

21 May 2024

MK Dons SET has been working with schools across Milton Keynes this week alongside Thames Valley Police as part of the national anti knife crime initiative Operation Spectre.

Custody Coach Paul Stewart visited Milton Keynes College, Stantonbury School and Ousedale School alongside Thames Valley Police to speak to students about the implications of carrying a knife as well as the impact it can have on victims and their families.

There were also practical demonstrations, such as familiarising students with what a bleed kit looks like and how to use one.

MK Dons SET was also able to pass on valuable information to students covering the law and how it applies to carrying a knife, as well as discussing knife-crime scenarios and how they can impact the community.

Operation Sceptre is a national week of action to tackle knife crime which is coordinated by the National Police Chief’s Council (NPCC).

Thames Valley Police Officers from Milton Keynes responded to this operation by attending schools and colleges, raising awareness and educating young people to prevent them from being involved in knife crime.

This was achieved through a screening/search operation and engagement events.

During the week:

* Approximately 4,500 students were screened.

* Numerous items were seized, from vapes to an offensive weapon (non-bladed item).

* Engagement with over 8,000 students.

* High visibility, reassurance patrols and weapon sweeps conducted of schools/colleges and their surrounding areas.

On Operation Sceptre, Sergeant Kevin Simmonds said; “This week has been a great success, which was only possible due to the willingness and support of our partner agencies in the schools, colleges and MK Dons SET. Over the week we managed to engage with over 8,000 students, providing them with safety advice and deterring them from crime”.
